Upload a whole wedding with the desktop app

Send a folder of a thousand frames without holding it in a browser tab.

A browser tab is a poor way to move a wedding. It holds every file in memory, it stops if you close it, and it cannot pick up where it left off. The desktop app does the carrying instead.

Use the browser for a handful of photos. Use the app for a card.

Get it

Press Get the app in the sidebar, or the same button on your account page. The dialog offers the build for your computer.

  1. Download and open the app.
  2. Press Connect. Approve it in the browser tab it opens.
  3. Leave it running. Send a wedding to it from any gallery here.

Connecting is an approval, not a password

The app shows a six character code. The browser asks you to confirm that code and gives the device a name, so you can see which machine you are approving. Nothing is pasted, and there is no token to keep safe.

Approving needs you to be signed in here, in the browser. That is deliberate: granting a device access to your account is exactly the thing an uploader should never be able to do for itself.

Sending a wedding

Pick the gallery and the scene here, in the browser, then press the button to send it to the app. The app opens its own folder picker on your computer and you choose the folder.

The split is on purpose. A web page cannot read a path off your disk, so the app has to ask for the folder itself. It also means a page you did not open can never make the app upload anything: the worst it could do is make a folder dialog appear that you still have to answer.

While it runs

Leave the app open. You can close the browser, and the upload keeps going. If it is interrupted, start it again and it continues rather than beginning from the first frame.

If nothing happens

  • Check the app is running and still says it is connected.
  • Safari cannot talk to a local program at all, so it leaves the job for the app to collect. Give it a few seconds.
  • A request goes stale after a while, so an old one will not surprise you with a folder dialog days later. Send it again.
